It worked at the second attempt: Fanny Smith achieves her 85th podium finish in the World Cup in Val Thorens. Sweden's Sandra Näslund follows suit.
Smith, the 2018 and 2022 Olympic bronze medallist, finished third in the second race in Val Thorens behind Näslund and France's Marielle Berger Sabbatel. The 33-year-old took her World Cup haul to 85 podium places. The second best Swiss skier was Saskja Lack in fifth place.
As on the previous day, Sandra Näslund took the win, completing the Val Thorens double after a two-year dry spell due to injury problems. The Swedish record holder now has 41 World Cup victories.
The Swiss men travel on from the first World Cup stage to the second in Arosa at the beginning of next week without a top classification. Former champion Alex Fiva and Tobias Baur got stuck in the quarter-finals on Friday, while Ryan Regez - like Jonas Lenherr, Gil Martin and Romain Détraz - had already reached the last 16. Canadian Kevin Drury took the win ahead of Simone Deromedis, the winner of the previous day, and Austrian Tristan Takats.
The qualification in Arosa will take place on Monday, the finals on Tuesday.
