At the start of the Swiss League playoffs, the home teams Basel, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Thurgau and Visp prevailed - albeit with a lot of difficulty.

The favorites struggled in the first round of the quarter-finals. Qualification winners Basel managed a 2:1 mini-victory against eighth-placed GCK Lions. Laurin Liniger and Jakob Stukel put Basel 2-0 in front shortly after half-time.

Thurgau only got their first point against promoted Chur in overtime. Kevin Kühni scored in the 63rd minute to make it 4:3 after the Grisons had led 3:0 until shortly after half-time.

Visp did better in the Valais derby. It held on to a 3:0 lead and won 3:2 against Sierre.

Like Thurgau, La Chaux-de-Fonds, runners-up in the qualifiers and Swiss League champions for the last two years, also needed extra time to beat Olten. Julien Privet redeemed the 3677 spectators in the Mélèzes ice rink in the 72nd minute.
