Two days before Christmas Eve, the Kings had lost 3-1 to the Capitals. Fiala had already scored on that occasion. In the second duel this season against the team led by Russia's Alexander Ovechkin, the St. Gallen native made it 2-0 at the start of the third period with a man advantage. 47 seconds after scoring goal number 25 of the season, Fiala was also involved in the last goal of the evening by Canadian Quinton Byfield.

Thanks to their fourth win in a row, the Kings are still clearly on course for the playoffs. The Capitals are now back at the top of the overall standings together with the Winnipeg Jets.

Meier and Hischier help turn things around

The New Jersey Devils recorded their third win in a row with a 3-2 victory at home against the Edmonton Oilers. The decisive scenes in Newark took place in the first half of the third period. The Devils were able to respond within 95 seconds to the 1:2 by Canadian Evan Bouchard. The Swede Jesper Bratt, who also had a hand in the Devils' other two goals, equalized for the home team, and the Slovakian Simon Nemec made sure of the decision with his first goal of the current season.

The Devils' management had brought the 21-year-old Nemec back to the NHL team from the Utica Comets farm team at the beginning of February as a replacement for Jonas Siegenthaler, who was out injured. Timo Meier was involved in Bratt's goal as a preparer, Hischier was the assistant on Nemec's debut.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are currently on an unpleasant run. The team with Janis Moser suffered its third loss in a row with a 3:4 penalty shootout loss at the Philadelphia Flyers. Moser was one of the players responsible for American Cam Atkinson's equalizer to make it 3-3 in the first period of the third period.
