Kevin Fiala scored in his Los Angeles Kings' 3-1 win over the New York Rangers to make it 1-1 and into the empty net to make it 3-1. These were goals number 27 and 28 from the eastern Swiss this season. The MVP of the last World Championship is thus still one goal behind his total from last year and five behind his best season - with twelve games to go.

The Winnipeg Jets were the second team to secure a mathematical ticket to the playoffs. The best team in the West overcame the leader in the East, the Washington Capitals, 3:2 after overtime, with Switzerland's Nino Niederreiter notching an assist for the 2:1 lead. Washington's Russian star forward Alex Ovechkin scored the 2-2 goal. He is now five behind the record of the legendary Wayne Gretzky with 889 goals.

Swiss defenseman Janis Moser also notched an assist in the Tampa Bay Lightning's 6-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
