Finland is traveling to the Olympic ice hockey tournament in Milan with 24 NHL players and ZSC defenseman Mikko Lehtonen.
More and more nations are announcing their squads for the Olympic Games in February these days. Only one player who does not play in the NHL made the Finnish squad: Mikko Lehtonen.
The two-time world champion and 2022 Olympic gold medallist is currently playing his fourth season with the ZSC Lions and was the key defenceman in Zurich's two championship titles and Champions League triumph.
The USA and Canada squads are naturally full of NHL players. Since the best league in the world is taking its first break for the Olympics since 2014, all of the US players are making their Olympic debuts. Among them is Auston Matthews, who started his professional career in 2015 as an 18-year-old with the ZSC Lions.
For the Canadians, two double Olympic champions (2010, 2014), Sidney Crosby and Drew Doughty, return under the sign of the five rings.
The national coaches had to nominate their squads by December 31. The Swiss squad has not yet been announced.
