Elaine Thompson-Herah will not be able to take part in the Olympic Games in Paris. The five-time Olympic champion has to miss out due to an Achilles tendon injury.
"I'm injured and devastated that I'm missing the Olympic Games this year. But it's also about my health. And that comes first," the 31-year-old Jamaican wrote on social media.
Thompson-Herah had planned to compete in France's capital as an individual runner in the 100 m only. She secured the double over the sprint distances at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro and the 2021 Games in Tokyo. In Japan, she also won gold with the 4x100 m relay team.
