Seven days, three games, seven goals: Karim Adeyemi also delivers in the league. Thanks in particular to his brace, Borussia Dortmund have overtaken 1. FC Heidenheim at the top of the Bundesliga.
Karim Adeyemi has crowned a perfect week for him with another brace and shot Borussia Dortmund to the top of the Bundesliga table, at least for one night. Thanks in particular to two goals and an assist from the 22-year-old, BVB demystified previous leaders 1. FC Heidenheim 4:2 (3:1) and overtook the Swabians, who had previously been unbeaten in five competitive matches this season.
Donyell Malen (12th minute), Adeyemi (17th/41st) and Emre Can (90th +3rd/manual penalty) also scored the first goals against FCH in this Bundesliga season. The goals from Marvin Pieringer (39) and Maximilian Breunig from the penalty spot (74) were not enough for the visitors, who only really put BVB under pressure in the closing stages.
The Champions League finalists from the Ruhr region warmed up for their first appearance in the top flight this season on Wednesday at FC Brugge with the win. This was particularly true of Adeyemi, who had already scored five goals in the two U21 internationals in recent days and overshadowed the season debut of €18 million signing Serhou Guirassy on Friday.
Outstanding Adeyemi: seven goals in seven days
After recovering from knee problems, the former Stuttgart player was immediately in the starting eleven and shone in Dortmund's third goal when he cleverly slipped the ball through for Adeyemi, who was lurking behind him.
In view of Dortmund's offensive spectacle, coach Nuri Sahin's risky tactics paid off. As expected by his Heidenheim colleague Frank Schmidt, Dortmund stood extremely high and left only the central defenders Niklas Süle and Waldemar Anton as protection in the absence of the yellow-red suspended Nico Schlotterbeck.
The home side generated pressure early on and went straight into the lead through Malen. It was the first goal Heidenheim had conceded this season. And it didn't stop there, as the previously highly praised visitors were unable to find a way to counter Dortmund's attacking power.
