Defending champions Real Madrid go down on the road at Arsenal. The Gunners ran out deserved 3-0 winners and set the course for the semi-finals.

Arsenal celebrated a deserved 3-0 win at home against Real Madrid. In the first half, the Gunners were still on level terms, but turned up the heat in the second half. Man of the match was Declan Rice with two direct free-kicks from around 25 meters. First, the Englishman scored from a half-right position on 58 minutes, flicking the ball around the wall with great panache. Twelve minutes later, he curled the ball into the top right-hand corner of the goal from a half-left position. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois had no chance of stopping both the first two goals and Mikel Merino's 3-0 with a quarter of an hour to go.

The Belgian, together with the players in front of him, prevented the defending champions from suffering an even greater defeat on several occasions. The Madrilenians will return home with a heavy burden and are in danger of missing out on the semi-finals of the top flight for the first time in five years. Arsenal, on the other hand, are on course to reach the semi-finals for the first time in 16 years.
