Pisa, with Michel Aebischer in midfield, had turned the game around from 0-1 to 2-1 in the second half. Juan Cuadrado and M'Bala Nzola's goals brought the promoted side very close to their first Serie A win in 34 years. Athekame prevented it with a shot from an acute angle following a corner taken by Luka Modric.
