Hansi Flick and FC Barcelona remain top of the table in Spain. Two former Bundesliga professionals cause a stir in an early match.
FC Barcelona and coach Hansi Flick have defended their lead at the top of the Primera División table in their top-of-the-table clash with Atlético Madrid despite a woeful penalty miss by Robert Lewandowski. The Spanish champions defeated coach Diego Simeone's side 3:1 (1:1) in an early game on matchday 19 and remain top of the table with 37 points. Atletico are fourth.
Alex Baena gave the visitors the lead in front of 45,205 spectators at the Camp Nou construction site after a counter-attack with his far post (19th minute). The Brazilian Raphina equalized for the dominant Catalans just a little later (26'). Lewandowski then had a great chance to make it 2:1 after a foul on Dani Olmo, but the former Bayern star missed miserably from the penalty spot (37'): His attempt went well over the Atletico goal.
Former Bundesliga player Olmo took center stage after the break. The ex-Leipzig player was responsible for the 2:1 (65'), but injured his shoulder in the process and had to be substituted. Ferran Torres made FC Barcelona's fifth league win in a row perfect in stoppage time (90.+6).

With a 3-1 home win against Deportivo Alavés, FC Barcelona took the lead in the LaLiga table on the final matchday. Nevertheless, coach Hansi Flick looks anything but happy shortly after the game. After the final whistle, the German remained seated on the Catalans' bench with a sad look on his face and had to be cheered up by Raphinha.
At the press conference before the thriller against Atlético, Flick explained: "I was disappointed after the game against Alavés. Because we lost too many balls - but also because of the bench. We had two red cards. I had to constantly look around and tell the assistant coaches to stay calm."
For this reason, he took his time before going back into the dressing room. "I said to myself: If I go into the dressing room now, I might break something. So it's better to stay outside and get some fresh air. Maybe it was wrong, but I made the decision," said Flick.
On Tuesday, Barcelona will face runners-up Atlético Madrid, who are just three points behind them in the table. You can find out whether Flick will have to keep his bench under control again live on blue Sport from 9pm.
