FC Basel continues to win after the championship celebrations and in its second suit. Kevin Carlos and Bénie Traoré turned a deficit into a 3:2 victory in Lausanne.
When Jamie Roche put Lausanne ahead from a corner in the 13th minute, it seemed as if the Vaud side had valuable points up their sleeve against the champions in the battle for a European Cup ticket - especially as FCB coach Fabio Celestini spoke of "suboptimal match preparation" and "full focus on the cup final" before the game.
The hope did not last long, however. Kevin Carlos scored twice between the 19th and 30th minute, putting not only FCB back on course, but also himself. Carlos, who was successful again for the first time in almost three months, took his season's tally to twelve goals - two thirds of Xherdan Shaqiri's tally, who leads the scoring charts by a large margin - just like Bénie Traoré, the scorer of the 3:1 in the 55th minute.
Shaqiri was one of seven players that coach Fabio Celestini withdrew from the starting eleven after the 5-2 win in Lugano and the extended championship celebrations. Kaly Sène scored the equalizer for Lausanne in the 79th minute. Nevertheless, the champions extended their winning streak to eight league games and nine competitive matches.
