Bayern Munich seize the first opportunity to secure their 35th league title. After beating Stuttgart 4-2, Vincent Kompany's team can no longer be displaced from first place with four rounds of the season remaining.
Although a whole host of top talents were not in the starting line-up, Bayern Munich used the home game against Stuttgart to give another demonstration of their strength. After initially going behind after 21 minutes without Michael Olise, Harry Kane, Manuel Neuer, Jonathan Tah and Dayot Upamecano, among others, the Munich side turned the game around within around six minutes. Raphaël Guerreiro, Nicolas Jackson and Alphonso Davies scored between the 31st and 37th minutes. The last Munich goal was scored by Harry Kane, who came on as a substitute after the break and now has 32 Bundesliga goals to his name.
What was true in the 30th round is also true for the season as a whole: the tension in the Bundesliga was only temporary. Dortmund were temporarily able to keep up with Bayern Munich, but there was still a lot missing to really shake the record champions. Only a flawless season performance by the outsiders would have been able to take the title away from FC Bayern. The Dortmund team, led by Swiss international goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, failed to produce such a performance. Only Bayer Leverkusen have been able to stop Munich's championship run in the last 14 years, when the team with Granit Xhaka remained unbeaten in 34 games.
After that setback two years ago, Bayern Munich have strengthened their wing positions with Michael Olise and Luis Diaz, who provided two more assists against Stuttgart. Together, the Frenchman and the Colombian have scored 42 goals and provided 49 assists in all competitions this season. These are figures that even Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry have not achieved for Bayern.
As with the famous Dutch-French wing-back duo of 2012/2013, Bayern Munich is also aiming for the treble this year. The early championship decision comes in handy. Kompany, who also won the league title in his second year as Bayern coach, can concentrate on the upcoming tasks in the other competitions. On Wednesday, FC Bayern will play the Cup semi-final in Leverkusen before taking on Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final in the following two weeks.
