Bayern Munich will not let their Champions League exit derail them from their championship course. The Munich side won 4-0 at Heidenheim and moved nine points clear of Leverkusen.

Harry Kane opened the scoring for Bayern Munich in the 30th Bundesliga round with his 24th goal of the season before the end of the first quarter of an hour. Konrad Laimer, Kingsley Coman and Joshua Kimmich then steadily increased the score to 4:0 by the 56th minute. Leverkusen, who are in second place, play at St. Pauli on Sunday.

Behind Bayern Munich and Leverkusen, the race for the other two Champions League places looks set to be exciting right to the end - with Eintracht Frankfurt (51 points), who play in Augsburg on Sunday, followed by Leipzig (49), Freiburg (48), Mainz (47) and Bremen (45) as well as Borussia Mönchengladbach (44) and Borussia Dortmund (42), who could close the gap with a win on Sunday in the direct duel.

Big points for Freiburg

Of the Champions League contenders, only Bremen, with a gritty 1-0 win over Bochum, and SC Freiburg, who recovered from conceding two goals in first-half stoppage time (2-2) to win 3-2 at home against Hoffenheim, really showed their mettle on Saturday. Lucas Höler scored the winner in the 57th minute after he had already made it 1-0. For the first goal, he benefited from the preparatory work of Swiss junior international Johan Manzambi, who also recorded his first assist a week after scoring his first Bundesliga goal.

Leipzig and Mainz had to settle for a draw. For Leipzig, Benjamin Sesko saved a 1-1 draw at home against Heidenheim with a penalty. Mainz, now without a win in five games, conceded 2:2 against Wolfsburg in the 89th minute, shortly after Silvan Widmer came on as a substitute.

Union Berlin clinches relegation with a goal spectacle

1. FC Union Berlin treated its fans to a footballing spectacle on the occasion of its Bundesliga anniversary and secured its early relegation. The Köpenickers and runners-up VfB Stuttgart drew 4-4 in the 100th first division home game at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. The points meant that FCU will definitely remain in the top flight for the seventh season in a row. Stuttgart once again showed comeback qualities against the Berliners, but suffered the next setback in the battle for the European Cup places.

The 22,012 spectators were treated to a breathtaking first half in which, for the first time in Bundesliga history, eight goals were scored in a match before the break. Andrej Ilic (5th minute), Diogo Leite (19th), Leopold Querfeld (39th) and Ilic again (45.+6) scored for Union. The goals for Stuttgart came from Deniz Undav (23), Enzo Millot (29), Jeff Chabot (43) and Chris Führich (45.+1).
