Bayern Munich march ahead in the Bundesliga despite a few lapses. Borussia Dortmund managed a small escape, Nico Elvedi scored an own goal.
Leaders FC Bayern Munich did their duty on matchday 20 of the Bundesliga, but had to tremble briefly at the end. The German record champions won 4:3 (2:0) at home against Holstein Kiel after leading 4:0 and extended their lead over defending champions Bayer Leverkusen to nine points for the time being. The previous season's double winners do not play until Sunday (17:30/DAZN) at home against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.
Borussia Dortmund won 2:1 (1:0) at 1. FC Heidenheim in the last game under the direction of interim coach Mike Tullberg, with new head coach Niko Kovac now taking over for the Dane Tullberg. Runners-up VfB Stuttgart suffered a setback in the race for the European Cup places, losing 1:2 (0:1) at home to Borussia Mönchengladbach.
In the relegation battle, Kiel and Heidenheim were joined by VfL Bochum, who lost 1:0 (0:1) to SC Freiburg. FC St. Pauli missed out on an important win with a 1:1 (1:0) draw against FC Augsburg.
Kane scores twice - Kiel still strong at the end
Jamal Musiala took advantage of Bayern's first good chance to take the lead in the 17th minute. Harry Kane (45.+3/46.) increased the lead directly before and after the half-time break after Kiel had missed good opportunities. Serge Gnabry (54') made it 4:0 for Bayern. However, Finn Porath (62) and Steven Skrzybski twice (90.+1/90.+3) brought promoted Kiel back into contention.
BVB were once again able to rely on goalscorer Serhou Guirassy (33') in Heidenheim, and after substitute Maximilian Beier (63') made it 2-0, Mathias Honsak (64') reduced the deficit on the counter-attack. Dortmund did not concede any more.
Gladbach's Kleindienst scores the winner against Stuttgart
Three days after their Champions League exit against Paris Saint-Germain, Stuttgart went behind again against Mönchengladbach through Nathan Ngoumou (25'), while Nico Elvedi (49') scored an own goal to equalize. National player Tim Kleindienst (82) secured a deserved victory for Gladbach.
FC St. Pauli were lucky to make it 1-0 when Augsburg's Scott Banks pushed a follow-up shot from Philipp Treu (17) over his own goal line in an attempt to save. However, Mert Kömür (83) managed to equalize. Bochum conceded the decisive goal against Freiburg through Kiliann Sildillia (34).
No announcements from the referees yet
Neither in Hamburg nor in Munich, nor previously in the second division match in Düsseldorf, did the referees have to explain decisions to the spectators via a microphone. This weekend will see the start of the test in which the referees will announce in the stadium how they judge the game based on video images.
