VfL Bochum has prematurely extended the contract with Ilja Kaenzig until 2029. The 51-year-old from Lucerne will be the sole managing director in future following the resignation of sporting director Patrick Fabian.

Kaenzig joined the then second-division club at the start of 2018. Bochum was promoted to the Bundesliga three years ago. Since this summer, the club has been coached by Peter Zeidler, previously coach of Super League side St. Gallen for six years.
