Real Madrid stay ahead of FC Barcelona in the Spanish Primera División. However, Mbappé is facing a ban of several weeks. The superstar committed a nasty foul in the 1:0 win against Alavés.
A brutal kick from superstar Kylian Mbappé overshadowed Real Madrid's 1-0 win at Deportivo Alavés. Five minutes after Eduardo Camavinga had given the Whites the lead in the 33rd minute, Mbappé made a violent lunge.
The Frenchman was clearly too late against his opponent Antonio in midfield and kicked him in the fibula from the side with full force and an open sole.
The referee initially only gave a yellow card, but was sent to look at the video footage and then showed the red card. Real now face a ban of several weeks for the attacker in the final sprint for the championship. Coach Carlo Ancelotti's team are now four points behind FC Barcelona at the top of the Primera División table with seven games remaining.
The hosts from the Basque Country made little of their superior numbers. Partly because they also weakened themselves: Manu Sanchéz unfortunately hit Real striker Vinicius Junior on the calf and was also shown the red card (68').
Real continue their campaign on Wednesday. The defending Champions League champions will be looking to make up for their 3-0 defeat in the first leg of their quarter-final second leg against FC Arsenal at home.
