Cape Verde qualify for the World Cup for the first time. The island nation off the west coast of Africa secured its place with a 3-0 win over Eswatini, formerly Swaziland.
After Uzbekistan and Jordan, Cape Verde is the third World Cup debutant at the tournament, which will take place from June 11 to July 19 in the USA, Mexico and Canada and will feature 48 nations for the first time.
Dailon Livramento (48), Willy Semedo (54) and Stopira (91) scored the goals on the final matchday for Cape Verde, who laid the foundations for their successful qualification with a 1-0 win over group favorites Cameroon in September. National coach Bubista's team is largely made up of unknown professionals.
In terms of population, Cape Verde (approx. 530,000 inhabitants) will be the second smallest participant in World Cup history - after Iceland, who made their debut in Russia 2018.
Cameroon still has the opportunity to qualify via the play-offs.
