After Noa Lang's curious thumb injury following a crash on the advertising board in the Champions League, his club Galatasaray Istanbul is demanding compensation. "We are currently consulting with lawyers. We will assert our claim for damages with UEFA," said general secretary Eray Yazgan on Turkish broadcaster HT Spor, threatening: "If our claim is not met, we could face legal action."

Specifically, Galatasaray is seeking reimbursement of salary payments for as long as Lang is out injured. "The player's health has priority," emphasized Yazgan. Lang had apparently jammed his thumb between two advertising boards during Galatasaray's 4-0 defeat at Liverpool FC in the Champions League. Blood flowed from the wound and the Dutch international was stretchered off the pitch.

UEFA announces measures

UEFA has investigated "the circumstances of the unfortunate accident", according to the continental association. It will now review the advertising boards "at all upcoming matches in order to identify comparable risks", it added. Clubs could also be asked to take such measures.

Galatasaray announced in the morning that Lang had suffered a deep cut to his thumb and was undergoing surgery in Liverpool accompanied by the team doctors. The operation was successful, Lang announced on Instagram, thanking everyone for their help and commenting with the words "Shit happens".

Broken arm for Osimhen

Lang lost his balance after a duel with Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones and staggered backwards into the advertising hoarding. The 26-year-old probably jammed his thumb in the process and immediately grabbed his hand in obvious pain.

In addition to Lang, Victor Osimhen will also be missing from the Istanbul club for the time being. The Nigerian international suffered a fracture to his right forearm in the first half. Initially, the arm will be in plaster, but the decision on an operation will be made in the coming days, according to the club.
