The European Championship ended in the semi-finals for France. The Équipe Tricolore's performance was clearly criticized. Nevertheless, national coach Didier Deschamps is to stay on.
National coach Didier Deschamps is to remain in office after the semi-final exit at the European Championships and despite the clear criticism of the French national football team. "I see no reason to question his contract," said head of the French FA Philippe Diallo to the French newspaper "L'Équipe". Deschamps had led the team through the tournament in the best possible way and achieved the sporting objective.
Deschamps has been coaching Les Bleus for twelve years. At this European Championship, however, there has been increasing criticism of the French team's lackluster style of play. Association boss Diallo does not want to accept this: "Even if there may be frustration today because we didn't make it to the end, you have to gain the necessary distance to see that the French team's performances are still exceptional."
Deschamps has a contract until 2026, which must be respected. "This is all the more true when the results are right," said Diallo. France were defeated by Spain in the semi-finals on Tuesday evening (1-2).
