Equalizer conceded in the 97th minute Despite taking the lead in stoppage time: Liverpool only get a draw at Fulham

After a long wait for the first goal in England, Florian Wirtz scores the next - but Liverpool are disappointed in the end.

After another goal from Florian Wirtz, defending champions Liverpool FC squandered a victory in a turbulent stoppage time. In the 2:2 draw at Fulham FC, Wirtz scored to make it 1:1 for the fourth-placed team in the Premier League. Cody Gakpo (90.+4) even gave them the lead in stoppage time, but a brilliant long-range shot from Harrison Reed (90.+7) gave Fulham a fair equalizer.

Ex-Liverpool professional Harry Wilson put the hosts ahead in London in the 17th minute. Wirtz, who arrived in the summer, then equalized with his second league goal (57'). Only a week ago, the German international scored his first Premier League goal after a long wait.

Crossbar saves on both sides

After falling behind at half-time, Argentinian world champion Alexis Mac Allister missed the equalizer by a hair's breadth with a header against the crossbar (53'). Shortly afterwards, Wirtz made it 1-1 after a pass from Conor Bradley and a review by the video assistant. The visitors were lucky when Wilson hit the crossbar of the empty Liverpool goal with a lob (78'). Gakpo's late opening goal was not enough to secure victory.

The game had started a good quarter of an hour later due to a medical emergency. On Thursday, the Reds will face leaders Arsenal FC.
