Dortmund celebrate a 3-0 win against Brugge. Gregor Kobel keeps a clean sheet at the back and substitute Jamie Gittens and Serhou Guirassy score the goals up front. Ardon Jashari only sits on the bench at Bridge.
Borussia Dortmund's start to the Champions League campaign was slow. The hosts came close to taking the lead in Bruges. But then coach Sahin brings a crucial player into the game.
The Dortmund professionals around match-winner Jamie Gittens were celebrated by the fans who had traveled with them. Despite an initially lackluster performance, BVB started the new Champions League season with a 3:0 (0:0) win at Belgian champions FC Brugge. Substitute Gittens scored twice in the closing stages (76th and 86th minute) before Serhou Guirassy (90.+5), who also only came on in the second half, scored his first goal for Dortmund from the penalty spot.
Although coach Nuri Sahin's team showed little of the brilliance on Wednesday that had carried the Bundesliga club to the final against Real Madrid in the previous season, they are now in the upper echelons of the reformed top flight with a league for all clubs.
"You can still score goals at the end of the game," said Julian Brandt after the match. "It was tough in the first half. We ran a lot, conceded a lot of good chances. It was a lot of work." However, the team is also characterized by the fact that "our bench also scores the goals", said Brandt. "We have a good squad across the board."
Nati goalkeeper Gregor Kobel is delighted with the one-nil win, while Ardon Jashari does not play for Brugge.
