Paris Saint-Germain can hardly be displaced from the top of the table. However, Breel Embolo ensures that PSG cannot celebrate with seven rounds to go.
After PSG's clear 6:1 victory in Saint-Etienne, a winner had to be found in the later clash between Monaco and Nice, who are level on points, in order to prevent the Parisians from celebrating their championship prematurely.
And so all eyes turned to Monaco, where the home team started with three Swiss players in the starting line-up. One of them, Breel Embolo, made a particularly eye-catching appearance. After just a few minutes, he won a penalty, which he left to the young Dane Mika Biereth. However, the latter failed to beat the goalkeeper.
After Biereth had redeemed himself with the 1:1 equalizer, it was Embolo who scored the acclaimed winner in the 73rd minute. The 2-1 win means Monaco could theoretically draw level with PSG in the last seven rounds. For coach Adi Hütter's team, however, the main aim is to defend their 2nd place and thus once again take part in the Champions League.
Paris, on the other hand, can clinch their 13th league title, their eleventh since 2013, with a point at home to Angers next Saturday.
