For European champion Fermin Lopez, the World Cup is over before it has even begun.
The Spaniard suffered a fracture to his right foot in Barcelona's 3:1 win over Betis Sevilla on Sunday - making it impossible for him to take part in the finals, which begin in around a month's time.
"The operation went well and I'm already looking forward to coming back stronger, both mentally and physically," the 23-year-old posted on Instagram. It would have been Lopez's first World Cup appearance.
