71 goals in 18 games: Led by Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain, a goalscoring record has been set on the third matchday of the premier class. According to UEFA, the first matchday of the current season and the fifth matchday of the previous season had previously been the highest-scoring with 67 goals in 18 games.
Six games on match day three saw five or more goals scored. The most goals were scored by defending champions Paris in their 7-2 win over Bayer Leverkusen. FC Barcelona defeated Olympiakos Piraeus 6:1, and PSV Eindhoven also scored six goals against SSC Napoli (6:2). Liverpool FC scored five times against Eintracht Frankfurt (5:1), as did Chelsea FC (5:1) against Ajax Amsterdam. FC Bayern Munich scored four goals against FC Brugge. However, three matches also ended goalless.
According to the European Football Association, all statistics relate to the group stage matches (six match days) between 1992/93 and 2023/24 (excluding the second group stage from 1999/2000 to 2002/03) and the league phase matches (eight match days) from 2024/25 onwards.
