Manchester City win the semi-final first leg of the Carabao Cup at Newcastle United 2:0 and are on course for the final. Nevertheless, starting coach Pep Guardiola is extremely annoyed after the final whistle.

Pep Guardiola actually had every reason to be happy after the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final. Manchester City won 2:0 away at Newcastle and are well on their way to advancing to the final. Nevertheless, the starting coach turns up at the press conference after the game annoyed. The reason: the VAR.

He intervened when new signing Antoine Semenyo supposedly scored a second goal in the 63rd minute - and disallowed the goal after a check lasting over five minutes due to Haaland's offside position. The Norwegian did not get the ball during the action, but from the VAR's point of view he decisively obstructed his opponent.

Guardiola was annoyed by the decision at the press conference and listed the actions from the recent past in which his team had been disadvantaged. "Why did the VAR not intervene in our Premier League game, but today they need over five minutes to cancel the 2-0?"

The Spaniard also explained that he was only voicing his criticism because his team had emerged victorious today. And he is already anticipating an apology from referee boss Howard Webb: "I'm pretty sure Howard Webb will call me to give me an explanation."
