Video highlights Lewandowski's brace leaves Flick jubilant on Barça debut

FC Barcelona start the new season with a 2:1 win at Valencia. Hansi Flick's debut as Barça coach was a success. Robert Lewandowski is the match-winner with a brace.

Hansi Flick celebrated his first win on his competitive debut as coach of FC Barcelona. The 59-year-old German's team won 2:1 (1:1) at FC Valencia to kick off the Primera División season. Robert Lewandowski was the match-winner for the Catalans with his two goals (45.+6 and 49./foul penalty). Valencia's Hugo Duro (44') had put the home side ahead with a header.

German national team captain Ilkay Gündogan was absent for Barça after suffering a laceration to his head in last Monday's friendly, as was Dani Olmo. The ex-Leipzig player is still behind in training after his transfer.

At the beginning of the week, the first criticism of former national coach Flick had already been voiced following the 3-0 defeat in the dress rehearsal against AS Monaco. Barça's arch-rivals and defending champions Real Madrid kick off their Spanish championship campaign at RCD Mallorca on Sunday (9.30pm, live on blue Sport).
