- Liverpool are the Premier League winners with four rounds of the season to go.
- The Reds beat Tottenham 5:1.
- It is Liverpool's 20th league title - the first under Arne Slot, who took over from Jürgen Klopp in the summer of 2024.
With the 5:1 home win against Tottenham, Liverpool took the final small step - even a draw would have been enough to win the title - with class. After trailing 1-0 early on, Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah ensured a clear verdict. The fifth goal was an own goal.
It is Liverpool's first league title since 1990, which they can celebrate with the fans at Anfield Road. Although the Reds had already ended their long drought in 2020, they were unable to throw a big party due to the coronavirus crisis. The supporters had been anticipating this championship title for some time, as Liverpool FC had marched through the championship so confidently in recent months. Second-placed Arsenal are 15 points behind after 34 rounds.
It is the perfect debut for 46-year-old Slot, who took over from club icon Jürgen Klopp when he joined from Feyenoord Rotterdam last summer. With their 20th triumph, Liverpool caught up with arch-rivals Manchester United in the number of league titles. The club, which is managed from Boston, has already mapped out its future. Top scorer Salah, who leads the Premier League scoring charts with 28 goals, and captain Virgil van Dijk recently extended their contracts.
