Man City had to tremble for a long time against Brentford FC, but in the end they deserved to win. Pep Guardiola's team will be looking forward to London on Sunday.

Manchester City claimed a must-win in the tight Premier League title race, beating Brentford FC 3-0. Jeremy Doku (60th minute), Erling Haaland (75th) and Omar Marmoush (90.+2) scored the goals for coach Pep Guardiola's team.

However, this still left City two points behind league leaders Arsenal. Three games left to play.

Man City struggling at the start

In front of their home crowd, City struggled for a long time against the compact visitors from Brentford. Man City took control as the game progressed, but could hardly find any gaps in Brentford's defense. Haaland missed the best chance before the break when he headed a Doku cross wide of the goal. Brentford also had chances themselves.

The second half continued in the same vein until Doku scored after an hour. He had previously shot at Brentford's Mikkel Damsgaard, from whom the ball inadvertently came back to Doku. A quarter of an hour later, Haaland put the game beyond doubt when he slid the ball over the line with his heel.

Omar Marmoush's goal in stoppage time could still prove valuable. If City and Arsenal are level on points at the end of the season, goal difference will decide the championship.

Attention now turns to London

After the home win, Manchester City, who had previously failed to score at Everton FC (3:3), must continue to hope for a slip-up by Arsenal. The leaders and Champions League finalists play at relegation-threatened local rivals West Ham United on Sunday.
