Derbi madrileño without a winner Mbappé saves Real's lead in the table against Atlético

There was no winner in the top match of the Spanish championship. Thanks to striker Kylian Mbappé, Real Madrid salvaged a point in the city duel.

Exceptional striker Kylian Mbappé has saved Real Madrid's lead at the top of the Primera División table. The Frenchman secured a 1-1 draw for the Spanish champions in the city duel against Atlético Madrid with his goal in the 50th minute.

As a result, coach Carlo Ancelotti's team remain top of the table with a one-point lead after the top match of matchday 23 against the runners-up.

Julian Alvarez had put Atletico ahead with a converted foul penalty in the 35th minute. Prior to that, Real defender Aurelien Tchouameni had stepped on Samuel Lino's foot in the penalty area. The referee only pointed to the penalty spot after viewing the video footage.

Rodriguez with an unfortunate challenge

Meanwhile, Ricardo Rodriguez had an unfortunate afternoon with Betis Sevilla. In the 3-2 defeat at Celta Vigo, Betis led 2-0 until the 60th minute, with Rodriguez seeing the goals from Antony, on loan from Manchester United, and Diego Llorente from the bench.
