Argentina's dream of successfully defending their title at the Copa América lives on after reaching the final. Canada is defeated 2:0 in the semi-final.
Lionel Messi, whose appearance at the Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford near New York City was not considered certain until the end due to a leg injury, played from the start and scored his first goal of the tournament - after missing a penalty in the quarter-final. The 37-year-old deflected a shot from Enzo Fernandez to make it 2:0. Julian Alvarez had scored in the first half.
In the Copa América final, world champions Argentina will face the winner of the second semi-final between Colombia and Uruguay. For Canada, who are taking part in the South American championship as guests for the first time, third place is still at stake on Saturday.
