Feyenoord advance to last 16 Milan concede a goal and are eliminated after a red card against Hernández

Feyenoord Rotterdam draw 1-1 against AC Milan in San Siro and reach the round of 16.

For the first time in 50 years, Feyenoord reach the last 16 of the Champions League (or the former Champions Cup).

An ill-timed penalty led to the elimination of AC Milan, who had already made up for the handicap from the first leg (0:1) in the first minute with a headed goal from Santiago Gimenez. In the 51st minute, French defender Theo Hernandez was shown a yellow card for a foul. Outnumbered, the Dutch looked to go on the offensive from then on. Argentinian Julian Carranza, who had only come on as a substitute nine minutes earlier, scored the headed goal in the 73rd minute that was enough for Feyenoord to progress.

AC Milan thus suffered another early defeat in the top flight. Sergio Conceição's team have only qualified for the round of 16 once in the last decade.
