According to media reports, Pirmin Schwegler from Eintracht Frankfurt is to become the new sporting director at VfL Wolfsburg. This was reported by "Kicker" and the "Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung". According to the reports, the two Bundesliga clubs have reached an agreement and the transfer of the former international (14 caps) is set to take place this week.

Schwegler has been working as Head of Professional Football alongside Chief Sports Officer Markus Krösche and Sports Director Timmo Hardung at his former club Eintracht, where the 38-year-old was once captain, since the beginning of the year. At Lower Saxony, who are looking for a successor in the sporting director position following the departure of Sebastian Schindzielorz, Schwegler would in future be under managing director Peter Christiansen.

Previously, Andreas Schicker from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Hannover 96 managing director Marcus Mann had turned VfL Wolfsburg down.
