Lugano celebrate their third win in their fourth game in the Conference League. The Ticino side showed maturity, determination and the necessary intensity against KAA Gent.
Coach Mattia Croci-Torti is "proud" of his team after the game. "My team played with a lot of heart," said a satisfied Croci-Torti on blue Sport. He was "very, very happy" with the team's attitude. They were focused throughout the game.
With the three points and nine overall, Lugano advances to the top eight of the European competition, which means direct qualification for the round of 16. However, there are still two games to play before qualification for the next round is finalized.
Lugano can already secure a place in the play-offs (ranks 9 to 24) in two weeks' time. In the away game against Legia Warsaw, a victory for Lugano would mean early qualification for the playoffs, in which the last places in the round of 16 are decided in a first and second leg.
"We know our goals," says Croci-Torti. And one of these goals is likely to be reaching the round of 16 - preferably via the quickest possible route: "We're trying to get into the top eight."
Before Lugano's next Conference League game on 12 December, Croci-Torti and Co. will travel to Geneva for the Super League's top match against Servette.
