Dembélé and Kane score PSG knock Bayern out of the Champions League and follow Arsenal into the final

The final of the 2026 Champions League pits Arsenal against Paris Saint-Germain. A 1-1 draw in the second leg at Bayern Munich was enough for defending champions PSG to claim a 6-5 victory.

Eight days after the spectacular first leg in Paris, in which PSG had taken a 5-4 lead after a 90-minute exchange of blows, it took just 139 seconds to score the tenth goal in the duel between the two strongest attacking teams of the moment. Ousmane Dembélé's early goal to put Paris ahead after an assist from Khvicha Kvaratskhely put further pressure on the home team, and it was only late on that PSG allowed their opponents to equalize. Harry Kane scored in stoppage time (94') to make it 1-1.

The 2026 Champions League final will therefore be Paris Saint-Germain v Arsenal. Arsenal, who like PSG still have a chance of winning the league and Champions League double, reached the final on Tuesday with a 1-0 home win against Atlético Madrid. The final will take place in Budapest on Saturday, May 30.

Bayern Munich had kept their chances alive in the first leg, scoring two goals to win 4-5. On Wednesday evening, the German champions had to contend not least with referee João Pinheiro. The Portuguese, who, like Sandro Schärer a week ago, officiated his biggest game to date and took a generous line, judged a clearance from Vitinha to João Neves' outstretched arm after half an hour not to be worthy of a penalty, much to the horror of the hosts. Shortly before that, the already cautioned Nuno Mendes had also received the ball on his arm, but according to João Pinheiro, this handball in midfield was preceded by a hand from Konrad Laimer.

João Pinheiro also provided a target with an offside decision in the 23rd minute, without the linesman giving him a signal. He prevented a great chance from Harry Kane, although there was no clear offside on the TV images.

Third final in seven years for PSG

Bayern also had to look at themselves. Although they had significantly more possession, unlike in the first leg, they were unable to unleash their attacking power to the usual extent in their own stadium. Even the constant source of fire Michael Olise and Harry Kane, whose 14 goals in the current competition are now only surpassed by Kylian Mbappé (15), were unable to make a decisive impact. Kane's equalizer in the 94th minute in his usual Kane style came too late. A chance from Olise to make it 1-1 was thwarted by PSG keeper Matvei Safonov (15), while the Frenchman shot just over the goal in another action (27).

It was the third final in the last seven years for Paris Saint-Germain, for whom the absence of winger Achraf Hakimi was not a decisive factor. Last year, the French side won the title with a 5-0 victory over Inter Milan.
