Video highlights St. Gallen shoots down the champions - YB's nerves are on edge

The champions are already in crisis after the first week of the Super League. Young Boys also lose their third game of the season. They went down 4-0 at St. Gallen.

0 points and 2:9 goals - that is Bern's horror record in the first eight days of the new season. Things look even worse for coach Patrick Rahmen himself, who joined YB in the summer after ending the season in Winterthur with seven defeats in a row. The new man on the bench must now get his team back on track quickly. Next Sunday, YB will face FC Zurich at home. YB have never suffered four defeats in a row in the Super League, and the last time they lost three in a row was almost ten years ago.

At the moment, almost nothing is coming together for YB. Apart from one action shortly before the break, which ended with Meschack Elia hitting the post, Rahmen's team never came close to getting back into the match after conceding early goals from Chadrac Akolo (9') and Willem Geubbels (18'). Even the team's break-time speech had as little positive effect as the personnel changes. Left-back Jaouen Hadjam, who came into the game after 45 minutes, was at the origin of the goals conceded by Felix Mambimbi (51') and Christian Witzig (55') with a lost ball and a misplaced pass, which answered the question of the winner early on.

YB's defense in particular was never at its best without the injured Mohamed Camara and Loris Benito. They were repeatedly surprised by passes into the deep. Until Elia's shot hit the post, St. Gallen could have led 4-0 or 5-0 with more efficiency. The longer the game went on, the more obvious the insecurity in YB's ranks became. Even though the season is still very young, time is pressing. Corrective action must now be taken quickly, as the club is facing a rapid succession of matches, not only in the league but also in the Champions League play-offs in three and a half weeks' time.

St. Gallen, meanwhile, corrected their poor start to the season with an unfortunate defeat in Winterthur last weekend with two clear victories in the European Cup against the Kazakhs of Tobol and against YB. The team of new coach Enrico Maassen scored 8:1 goals in two games and within three days. This rapid development of St. Gallen can also give YB some encouragement at this moment.

Man of the Match: Willem Geubbels

"Representative of the striking attackers at FCSG. Set up 2 goals and scored one himself. Top effort."

    YB under pressure

Under pressure - and this is much more surprising - are champions YB. Both at home against promoted Sion (1:2) and in the early away game against Servette (1:3), the Bernese team failed to pick up any points. They will now be looking to add to their tally in the third game under new coach Patrick Rahmen, although the task in St. Gallen is anything but easy. The team from eastern Switzerland are strong at home and gained the necessary confidence on Thursday with a 4:1 win in the Conference League qualifier against Tobol Kostanai.
