The European Women's Football Championship will be held in Switzerland from July 2 to 27. An overview of what's on in the eight host cities.
Basel
A total of five matches will take place in Basel, including the opening match and the final. Before each match, fans will march from the Münsterplatz or Messeplatz to the stadium. Switzerland and Norway will kick things off before the opening match on July 2 in St. Jakob-Park. The rolling sculpture "Klamauk" by artist Jean Tinguely will lead the march. This vehicle will also be part of the parade before the final match on July 27.
The fan zone on Barfüsserplatz opens on July 1. With public viewing, football films, city tours and concerts, there is something on the program almost every day during the European Championships. Former ESC participant Anna Rossinelli and Steiner & Madlaina will be performing, among others. The Historical Museum right next to the Fanzone will also be exhibiting a selection of national and international trophies.
The second fan zone on Messeplatz also has a public viewing area and is dedicated to games and sport. A mobile football pitch, a ball course, a slide and walk-in water balls are available. Basel is expecting half a million visitors during the European Championships.
Zurich
The "ZüriFanzone" on Europaallee right next to the main railway station will be a meeting place for football fans during the European Championships. The centerpiece is the public viewing area for up to 2000 people. The matches can also be watched on a smaller scale in bookable "fan rooms".
Three group matches, one quarter-final and one semi-final will take place in Zurich. No fan marches are planned.
Ten so-called "Red Goals" have already been in place in Zurich for a few days to draw attention to the European Championships. The large red goals are made of aluminum scaffolding, covered with red fabric and illuminated from the inside. The light art project is based on the concept of the Hamburg light artist, theater maker and scenographer Michael Batz.
Bern
Under the motto "Berner Ballzauber", the Fanzone on Bundesplatz and the Corner on Waisenhausplatz will be opened in Bern on July 1. Soukey and Chlyklass, among others, will be performing on the Bundesplatz on this day.
The Fanzone offers an extensive program for 27 days: public viewing on the big screen, the largest Ferris wheel in Switzerland and numerous concerts. On July 17, YB's Swiss champions will present themselves to the fans on the Bundesplatz.
The cube in the corner on Waisenhausplatz will be showing the immersive film show "Unstoppable" about the history and possible future of women's football. Those who want to get active themselves can do so on the mobile football pitch. A bar will also be showing the matches live.
Bern will host three group matches and one quarter-final. Before each match, fans from the participating nations march together to the Wankdorf Stadium.
Geneva
Five matches will take place in Geneva, including the match between Switzerland and Finland and a semi-final. The city expects 100,000 visitors. There will be a fan zone and a sports village on the Quai Gustave-Ador, where all matches will be broadcast. If there are no matches, football-related films will be shown. Sports that take place in the village include freestyle football, climbing and parkour.
Before matches, fans meet in Lancy-Pont-Rouge, from where they travel to the stadium.
Lucerne
On the Europaplatz in front of the Culture and Congress Center in Lucerne, 5000 people will be able to celebrate together. A supporting program will take place there between 2 and 12 July. The Swissporarena will also be the venue for three group matches.
The fans will march from the fan zone to the stadium. Beforehand, the musician Solong will perform the Lucerne European Championship song "GoGoGo".
The program will also include activities to get involved in, panel discussions and other special events, such as the "party tournament" for female politicians from the cantonal council and city parliament on 7 July and the concert by "SRF 3 Best Talent" Linda Elys on 11 July.
St.Gallen
In the city of St. Gallen, there will be a fan zone in the Marktgasse from July 2 to 13. There will be talks, concerts, food stalls and a street soccer cage. Fan marches are also planned on the three match days in St. Gallen. They will lead from Winkeln train station to the stadium.
The accompanying program includes special city tours. These will take you to places where "city and sports history merge", as the announcement states. The Textile Museum is presenting the exhibition "Women, Football & Textiles" from July 2 to 27. Among the 20 exhibits is the jersey worn by Madeleine Boll, who was the first Swiss female footballer to receive a license in 1964.
Thun
The fan zone on Waisenhausplatz in Thun opens on July 2. It will remain in operation for nine days. The program includes live concerts, freestyle football shows and the "Walk of Women's Football". Fans can get active themselves at the giant football darts and the gaming station.
Before each of the three group matches, there will be fan marches from Bälliz to the stadium.
Sion
In Sion, three matches will be played at the Tourbillon stadium. The fan march route leads from the train station through the city center to the stadium. The so-called WOW (Women's Euro Way) will host concerts, games for children and more. The Cour de Gare and Place du Midi will host a variety of events on match days in Sion and during the Swiss national team matches.
