Yann Sommer's start to the season with Inter Milan did not go according to plan. The Italian champions had to settle for a 2-2 draw at FC Genoa in their Serie A opener after conceding a late goal.

Genoa scored a fortunate but not entirely undeserved equalizer in the 95th minute through Junior Messias. Junior Messias was initially denied by Sommer with a handball penalty in the middle, but scored on the follow-up.

Before that, Sommer had not cut a good figure when Alessandro Vogliacco made it 1-0 after 20 minutes by letting a high ball bounce forward. Marcus Thuram scored twice for Inter.

Serie A returnees Parma drew 1-1 with Simon Sohm in the starting eleven against AC Fiorentina.
