Harry Kane has taken the penalty 24 times in the Bundesliga so far. And he scored 24 times. This streak came to an end in Wolfsburg.

Goalscorer Harry Kane of FC Bayern Munich has missed a penalty for the first time in the Bundesliga. In the match at VfL Wolfsburg (1:0), the 32-year-old Englishman shot the ball over the goal in the 36th minute with the score at 0:0. Kane had slipped slightly as he took his shot.

Since signing from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2024, Kane had previously converted 24 out of 24 penalties in the Bundesliga. He only failed once from the spot in two other competitions: in this season's DFB Cup in the first round match at SV Wehen Wiesbaden. And in the Champions League in January against Union Saint-Gilloise.

Before the penalty, however, Wolfsburg's Jeanuel Belocian - unnoticed by the referee - had also worked the penalty spot a little with his feet. "I know that Wolfsburg are fighting for relegation in order to stay in the Bundesliga. Nevertheless, I think it's an unnecessary action. I think you still play fair, even when there's a lot at stake," said Bayern's Tom Bischof on Sky TV.

Urbig and Kompany show understanding

Munich keeper Jonas Urbig was a little more forgiving: "Everything is at stake for Wolfsburg. That's why I'm not at all angry that someone manipulated the penalty. At the end of the day, it's a matter of existence."

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany also showed some leniency. "Of course we don't want that to happen, but I also have a bit of understanding for it. Everything is at stake for Wolfsburg," said the Belgian, who also addressed the passivity of his own players in this scene. "If that had happened on Wednesday against Paris, we would have run there with two or three people," he said.
