The contract is already ready to be signed. But the planned transfer of VfB goal scorer Serhou Guirassy to BVB has come to a standstill. A decision is not expected to be made until next week.
No time? blue News summarizes for you
- The supposed bargain transfer of Serhou Guirassy to BVB is on the rocks. The striker has not passed the medical check in Dortmund.
- Guirassy is due to undergo a further examination next week. A stay at VfB Stuttgart is suddenly possible again.
- BVB want to further strengthen their squad this summer in order to become a championship contender again. Last season, Dortmund failed to finish higher than fifth in the league, but reached the Champions League final.
Return flight instead of new start: At the same time as his supposedly new Dortmund colleagues were training for the first time, Serhou Guirassy boarded a plane for Stuttgart at the nearby airport. Unfortunately for everyone involved, the plan to put the former VfB goalscorer in the limelight as a new signing at Nuri Sahin's head coach debut was thus rendered null and void. After failing the medical check, the 28-year-old has gone from being a beacon of hope to a problem case.
The Champions League finalist gave no indication of the severity of his injury during the first team training session after two days of performance diagnostics. According to the German press agency dpa, a further examination is not planned until the beginning of next week. Guirassy is said to have suffered an injury during an international match for Guinea at the beginning of June, which according to BVB "requires further clarification".
Sahin in particular will be hoping that the doctors will then have no more objections to the signing of the four-year contract, which is already ready to be signed. After all, the second-highest scorer in the last Bundesliga season (28 goals) plays a major role in BVB's return to its DNA. New sporting director Lars Ricken recently expressed what he expects from Sahin: "We want to play courageously and offensively. Then the successes will come." This should be particularly visible in the Bundesliga, where Borussia recently failed to finish higher than fifth under Sahin's predecessor Edin Terzic.
BVB with a transfer offensive
With the signing of international Waldemar Anton from VfB Stuttgart, the first new arrival has already been confirmed. The central defender, who was intended as a replacement for Mats Hummels, spoke to the fans from the heart in his first interview after signing: "I will always say that we want to finish first. I've actually always pursued that goal for as long as I can remember."
In addition to Anton and Guirassy, Pascal Gross is also set to strengthen the squad. Negotiations with the midfielder, who is still under contract with English club Brighton & Hove Albion until 2025 and, like Anton, was part of the DFB's European Championship squad, are said to be nearing completion.
Borussia's numerous European Championship participants and Giovanni Reyna, who played in the Copa América, will not start training until the end of July. The US international, who most recently played for Nottingham Forest, joins full-back Tom Rothe (Holstein Kiel) and Soumalia Coulibaly (Royal Antwerp) in the group of returning loan players.
Süle loses ten kilograms in four weeks
Niklas Süle attracted a lot of attention during his first training session. The central defender was only used sporadically at the end of last season due to fitness problems that could hardly be overlooked. BVB themselves published a picture of the 28-year-old in much better physical condition on X (formerly Twitter). Süle is said to have lost around ten kilos in the last four weeks.
The first test match of the preparations will take place on Friday (18:00), when BVB play a selection of amateur footballers in nearby Holzwickede. On July 19, the still decimated squad will travel to Thailand and Japan for almost a week, where two test matches are scheduled. The training camp will again take place in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland, from August 1 to 9.
