After an interruption of one year, the championship trophy is back in the capital: the YB footballers are Swiss champions for the 16th time. To mark the occasion, blue Sport presents a review in 16 chapters.
YB were crowned champions early this year. For the 16th time in the club's history. After just one season, the golden trophy returned to the capital, where it can now be displayed for the fifth time in the last six years.
Raphael Wicky's team were once again in a league of their own. Unlike in the three years under Gerardo Seoane , when the Young Boys set numerous records and clearly dominated the competition, this time the Bernese did not act with equal aplomb and also benefited from the fact that the other teams in the Super League kept taking points off each other. And the supposedly strongest opponents from Basel weakened themselves with sometimes questionable transfer policy, restructuring and cost-cutting measures that led to internal unrest, so that it never mattered much if YB didn't pick up three points, but only one - or none at all.
Nationally, the Young Boys knew no opponents. They scored the most goals and conceded the fewest, and with Cedric Itten and Jean-Pierre Nsame they have by far the most dangerous attacking duo. Only FC Lugano can still prevent the third double in the club's history (after 1958 and 2020) with a surprise win in the Cup final on June 4 in the Wankdorf.
It was a top-class championship season, which we now look back on with the championship film "Häbet nech am Bänkli" and review the best moments in 16 chapters. Enjoy the video at the beginning of the article.
