The national team impressed in their 2:0 win over Italy in the round of 16 and are brimming with confidence. For the first time in their history, Granit Xhaka & Co. could advance to the semi-finals of a European Championship. To do so, they would have to get England out of the way.
Such a coup would be "huge", as blue Sport football expert Zubi emphasizes. "If you think about it, we beat the reigning defending champions, European champions Italy - and then we would win against the great England." Zubi on advancing: "Then of course we're looking forward to the semi-final against the Turks. That's the next game." Of course, Switzerland could also meet the Netherlands in a possible semi-final, but Zubi believes the Turks have the advantage.
What would happen in Switzerland if they reached the semi-finals? "I'm in Switzerland a lot, there's a lot going on at the moment. And the fans are of course amazing. When I'm back in Germany, I always have images of the 2006 World Cup in my head - in Dortmund with 60,000 Swiss fans. That's tremendous, it's great to see and of course it's a huge support," enthuses Zubi.
Former DFB star Bastian Schweinsteiger also believes the team will advance to the last four, saying after the Three Lions' last appearance on ARD. "The English were practically already gone and at the last moment they were able to pull their heads out of the noose. But Switzerland are so good, so strong at the moment ... Switzerland will win this duel."
