HC Fribourg-Gottéron has signed Canadian center forward Linden Vey from Awangard Omsk to strengthen the team. The experienced player is expected to fill the gap in the team.
HC Fribourg-Gottéron has secured the services of Canadian center Linden Vey. The 33-year-old moves from Awangard Omsk of the Russian KHL to Switzerland and has signed a contract until the end of the season.
Vey has played 20 games for Omsk in the first two months of the current season, scoring 19 points. Gerd Zenhäusern, Gottéron's sports director, was pleased with the signing: "We managed to sign a player during the season who is already in good shape."
The signing of Vey is intended to fill the gap left by the transfer of Chris DiDomenico to Ambri-Piotta. DiDomenico was given up in exchange for winger Jakob Lilja. With Vey, there are now seven foreign players in the Freiburg squad, which will increase competition within the team, according to Zenhäusern.
Experience from Switzerland
Linden Vey is no stranger to the Swiss ice hockey scene. Seven years ago, in the 2017/18 season, he became Swiss champion with the ZSC Lions. Back then, he joined the team in January and played ten qualifying games and five playoff games, in which he scored a total of eight points.
Vey is expected to arrive in Fribourg on Thursday and should be integrated into the team as quickly as possible in order to contribute his experience and skills.
