Four Swiss players, including two amateurs, make the cut at the Omega European Masters in Crans-Montana and are still in contention at the weekend.
Four Swiss players have never qualified for the final rounds, at least not in modern times. One of them, 24-year-old Cedric Gugler from Basel, is still in the top 10 after the second day. At six strokes under par, Gugler is eight strokes behind leader Matt Wallace from England, but the difference to second place (Alex Fitzpatrick) is only four strokes.
Amateur Nicola Gerhardsen, who was still in 6th place at times on Friday morning, dropped back to 65th place with a significantly less good second round (4 over par). Ronan Kleu from Küsnacht and amateur Max Schliesing from Valais also made the cut in the same rank.
The three highest-paid Swiss professionals did not make the cut: Jeremy Freiburghaus (1 over par), Benjamin Rusch (2 over par) and Joel Girrbach (3 over par) have to leave Crans without a payday. These three have (Rusch, Girrbach) or have had (Freiburghaus) a tour card for the European Tour.
Leader Matt Wallace (14 under par) was the only one in the field to play all 36 holes at least par or better on the first two days.
