Although Lugano had more of the play in the first two periods, the Bianconeri were 2-0 down after 40 minutes. Sandro Schmid made it 1:0 (10') for the visitors from close range after a failed clearance by Lugano captain Calvin Thürkauf, who had missed the previous three games through injury. In the 27th minute, 39-year-old Julien Sprunger increased the lead to 2:0 with a deflection, his team's 23rd power-play goal of the season.
