Fribourg-Gottéron also wins its second game of the season against Lugano. Coach Roger Rönnberg's team won 4-0 away from home and closed the gap on second-placed Lausanne in terms of points.
Although Lugano had more of the play in the first two periods, the Bianconeri were 2-0 down after 40 minutes. Sandro Schmid made it 1:0 (10') for the visitors from close range after a failed clearance by Lugano captain Calvin Thürkauf, who had missed the previous three games through injury. In the 27th minute, 39-year-old Julien Sprunger increased the lead to 2:0 with a deflection, his team's 23rd power-play goal of the season.
Fribourg goalie Reto Berra was not to be denied in the final period either and celebrated his third shutout of the current championship thanks to 29 saves. Jacob de la Rose scored his fifth goal in the last four games to make it 3-0 (55'). Christoph Bertschy's 4:0 (59.) was a goal into an empty net.
Fribourg celebrated their fourth win in the last five games, while Lugano ended a run of four home victories with a goal difference of 20:3.
