The American Grant Fisher improves the world record over 5000 m at the indoor meeting in Boston. Last week, Fisher already broke the world record over 3000 m in New York.
Grant Fisher, who won bronze in both the 5000 m and 10,000 m at last summer's Olympic Games in Paris, ran 12:44.09 minutes in Boston. In doing so, he improved the old indoor record over 5000 m (12:49.60) by more than five seconds. This record, set by Kenyan Kenenisa Bekele, had stood for 21 years.
Fisher ran ahead solo in the second half of the race. "Having to run alone for so long, and on a 200m lap at that, is tough. It's one of the most exhausting things I've ever done," explained Fisher.
