At 22, Carlos Alcaraz is the youngest World Sportsman of the Year

With Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka, the main winners of this year's Laureus World Sports Awards come from tennis. Swiss wheelchair athlete Catherine Debrunner comes away empty-handed.
Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka were named Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year at the awards ceremony in Madrid, with 22-year-old Alcaraz becoming the youngest winner in the most important category. Like the Spaniard, the Belarusian also received this honor for the first time. The team of the year award went to Paris Saint-Germain.
Other Laureus awards went to English Formula 1 world champion Lando Norris (Breakthrough of the Year) and Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy (Comeback of the Year). The award for Para-athlete of the Year, for which Catherine Debrunner from Eastern Switzerland was nominated as in the previous year, went to the Brazilian swimmer Gabriel Araujo.
The awards were presented by a jury of 69 athletes from the Laureus Academy, which also includes Swiss Olympic cycling champion Fabian Cancellara.
