Deschwanden flew the fourth-best distance of 217.5 m in the first round and finished in 6th place. With his second jump (209 m) he could not quite keep up with the best. The fifth podium place of the season was out of reach. Behind Wellinger, the two Slovenians Timi Zajc and Anze Lanisek took the next places.

In addition to Deschwanden, Yanick Wasser (28th) from the Swiss team also managed to qualify for the second round. Killian Peier failed after the first jump in 35th place.

In the women's event, Slovenian world record holder Nika Prevc flew to her eighth World Cup victory in a row with 213.5 m on her 20th birthday. The competition was held with just one round.

The second ski flying competition on the Vikersundbakken will take place on Sunday.
