Four days after winning bronze from the 1-meter board, water diver Michelle Heimberg secured the gold medal from the 3-meter board at the European Championships in Antalya, Turkey.

It was the second European Championship title for the Aargau native, who turns 25 on June 2, after winning from the 1-meter board in 2023. It was her eighth time on the podium at a European Championships.

Heimberg was already the best in the morning qualification with 311.15 points. In the final, she improved to 335.10 points. Europe's water diver of the year 2023 thus relegated Armenia's Aleksandra Bibikina (322.95) and Germany's Lena Corona Hentschel (312.70) to the other podium places.

After Heimberg missed out on qualifying for the Olympic Games in Paris at the World Championships in Doha in February 2024, she took some time out. She did not enter an indoor pool for six months. She struggled with mental problems. Now she seems to have emerged stronger from this difficult time. "I'm overwhelmed by the feelings," said Heimberg. "To come back like this is incredible and proves to me that the break has done me good."
