The ice hockey association (Swiss Ice Hockey) is presenting a paper that is intended to significantly advance and strengthen the Swiss League, the second-highest league. However, it is unlikely that all the ideas can be implemented.
The association is also aware of the problems: seven "strategic solution scenarios" are listed, all of which would have to be implemented in order to position the Swiss League as a "modern, competitive and economically viable second professional league".
However, the National League is likely to reject some of the seven points mentioned - for example, the introduction of direct promotion and relegation, the adjustment of the league structure and financial support. Such proposals do not command a majority in the National League. Accordingly, the association also states soberly in its press release that "the National League is reluctant to accept the proposals from the analysis".
The seven points drawn up by a sports marketing agency on the basis of experience, discussions with clubs and comparisons with other (foreign) second leagues are as follows: 1. repositioning of the Swiss League as a second professional league. 2. centralized marketing of the league. 3. introduction of direct promotion and relegation. 4. adjustment of the league structure with twelve teams. 5. Swiss League to be the talent factory of Switzerland. 6. regulation of finances at club level. 7. financial support for promoted and relegated teams.
Many of these seven points are not being discussed for the first time. The central marketing of the Swiss League could not be realized years ago. The National League will reject direct promotion/relegation. The control of finances by an independent institution has also existed in the past and has been repeatedly reduced to absurdity by imaginative officials.
