After two defeats, Swiss captain and goal scorer Nico Hischier puts the New Jersey Devils back on the road to victory and top of the NHL's Eastern Conference standings.
The Valais native didn't hesitate long in the Swiss duel against the Los Angeles Kings with Kevin Fiala. He opened the scoring as early as the 2nd minute of the game by decisively deflecting a shot from distance. With his third goal in the current championship, Hischier consolidated his lead in the Swiss scoring charts. With eleven points (3 goals/8 assists), he leads ahead of teammate Timo Meier and Fiala, who both came away empty-handed in this game. On the other hand, defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler was credited with an assist for the Devils.
Hischier was not the only Swiss scorer on Sunday night, when almost all the local mercenaries were in action. Philipp Kurashev even scored twice for the San Jose Sharks - his first brace since March 2024. Among other things, he buried the puck in overtime with the winning goal to make it 3-2 against the Western Conference leaders Colorado Avalanche.
Kurashev is on a high. He has scored four goals in the last three games. Thanks to his goals, the Sharks are now gradually pulling away from the bottom of the table. Kurashev has now scored five times in the still young season - the same number as Fiala.
